Celebrating Sports Fellowship,
Spirit, and Community Pride
Letter from the GCAC President

Thank you for your interest in the Gulf Coast Athletic Club and our continued support of Gulf Shores High School Athletics. We have proudly been a part of the Gulf Shores community for over a decade now and certainly have enjoyed wonderful and entertaining speakers during those years while recognizing outstanding scholar athletes from Gulf Shores High School.

Our fellowship is open and we welcome any guest (ladies too) that would be interested in joining our GCAC club. As you can imagine, we have several club members that represent Auburn and the University of Alabama, but we certainly have members of several other great collegiate programs throughout our country. Our speakers, mostly football but not always, share with us their tales of success and triumph or how they have overcome obstacles and hardships to be where they are today. It's always entertaining and most certainly, you will get one good laugh before leaving.

We always meet on Monday nights at the Craft Farms Clubhouse during football season and again we welcome you to come join us!

GCAC President, Declan J McClelland
First Meeting of the 2011-2012 Season
Monday, August 29th
Craft Farms Club House
Dinner meetings begin at 6pm
Our first meeting of the season will be Aug. 29th with special guest speaker Joey Jones, Head Football Coach for the “undefeated” University of South Alabama Jaguars.  This will be a special meeting that you will not want to miss.

The Club enjoyed a great season this past year.  We had eight entertaining speakers including Pro football’s Ken “Snake” Stabler, radio personality Scott Moore, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Executive Director Scott Myers, Basketball Coach Mark Gottfried, Pro football’s Mike “Captain Crunch” Kolen, Auburn QB Ben Leard, Coach Ray Perkins, and Chris Stewart, Crimson Tide Sports Network.

We recognized 6 outstanding Gulf Shores High School scholar athletes during the season including: Nicholas Anagnostopoulos, Mary L. Gottfried , Laura N. Jones, Allison E. Taylor, Andrew J. Tranchina, and Shaun “Dylan” Searcy.    A $2000 scholarship was presented to Shaun “Dylan” Searcy at the annual awards night on May 18th.  Dylan plans to attend Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL, where he will pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering.  He also will participate in the schools first football program which plans to be recognized as a Div. II program by 2013.

The 9th Annual GCAC Golf Tournament was March 31st.  Over 70 golfers enjoyed a fun day at Craft Farms.  The net proceeds from the tournament fully funded the scholarship presented to Dylan Searcy.

We ended the year with 56 active members including 6 new members.  We do need to continue to grow our club.  We need all current active members to continue their membership this new season and invite all former members will re-join the Club.  Several have already expressed their intentions of re-joining.  New members are always welcome.

The eight meeting format will continue for the new season with the kick-off meeting on Aug. 29th, most likely 2 meetings each in Sept., Oct., and Nov., a final meeting in January, and the 10th annual Golf Tournament in the spring.  A specific meeting schedule will be presented later.  Membership dues will continue at $200 and include social time, dinner, team reports and entertaining speakers at each meeting.  All dinner meetings will continue at Craft Farms Clubhouse.
