Gulf Shores High School Scholar 
Athlete Nominees page. 

Each of the following scholar athletes have been recognized and honoured at our Gulf Coast Athletic Club for their individual outstanding performance on the field or court and for their excellence in the classroom. 

Each nominee will be entered into our $3,000 scholarship pool, where our GCAC board of directors will review and vote for one outstanding male and female scholar athlete.

Each winner will receive a minimum $1,500 scholarship.

Nicole Wallace and Brooks Mason
The Gulf Coast Athletic Club recognized the club’s “Scholar Athletes of the Year” and presented its annual scholarships to Gulf Shores High School Senior Scholar Athletes, Nicole Wallace & Brooks Mason at the school’s annual awards night May 17th.  Each received a scholarship from GCAC valued at $2250.00.

Nicole Wallace is an active student at Gulf Shores High School where she maintains a 3.94 GPA while taking Honors and Advanced Placement classes. She is an A-B Honor Roll student and is ranked 23rd in her class of 185 students Her ACT score is 26.   Nicole is a member of the National Honor Society, Juniorettes, Pure Club officer, active in Friends of Exceptional Children and Teens Against Animal Cruelty.

Nicole is captain of the varsity softball team and played and lettered in softball her entire high school career.  She was 7th in the state for 5A stolen bases as a 9th grader and All-County both her Junior & Senior years.  She also lettered in Varsity basketball. Nicole was voted “Most Athletic Female” in her senior class.

Nicole is active in her community where she was a softball tournament scorekeeper and soccer official for the City of Gulf Shores.   She is a Volunteer for softball camps, Children’s Church, Costal Cleanup, and is active in Vacation Bible School. 

Nicole plans to attend The University of Alabama in the fall to pursue a degree in Nursing and, ultimately, obtain a master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  She is inspired by her grandmother, a nurse for 17 years, but who entered college only after 22 years as a homemaker.  Nicole is motivated to be the best caregiver she can possibly be.

Brooks Mason maintains a 3.87 GPA while enrolled in Honors Classes and has a 25 ACT score. He is ranked 20th in his class of 187 students.  Brooks is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Interact Club, Friends of Exceptional Children, Teens Against Animal Cruelty, and is a Juniorettes Sweetheart.

Brooks played both baseball and football at Gulf Shores High School. His honors and achievements include:

Brooks is very active in his community and church.   He is a volunteer and Youth Leader at Liberty Church and participates in the Youth Group activity of feeding the Homeless in Pensacola.  He is a reader for Orange Beach Elementary School and volunteers for other Orange Beach and Gulf Shores activities.

Brooks plans to attend Samford University where he will major in accounting.

Carolina Braga

Some of my athletic accomplishments include 4 years of Varsity Basketball, 2 years of Junior Varsity Volleyball and 2 years of Varsity Volleyball. I have received Team Captain award and Scholar Athlete award for volleyball and basketball in 2012. I am currently ranked number one of 182 in my class and am a member or NHS, Friends of Exceptional Children, SGA, and Juniorettes. 

My inspiration for everything I do in my life comes from my mom, she is devoted and sacrifices anything and everything to help me achieve my goals and I could not do anything without her. 

After graduating high school I plan on attending a four-year college to major in Biomedical Sciences and go on to medical and dental school to become and Orthodontist. 

In addition, Carolina holds a GGPA of 4.45 and she scored 29 on the ACT.

Parker Mason

I have received player of the game awards including 2012 BC Rain, 2012 Faith Academy. All county honors two years in a row and player of the week 5A region one for the Faith Academy game. I have received team captain awards from both football and basketball. I am currently ranked in the top 15 of my class. I am a member of national honor society and I expect to finish in the top 10 of my class.  

My inspiration is without a doubt my father. He has molded me to be a man of character and be prepared for whatever life may throw at me. I plan to either study engineering or medicine and eventually go into orthopedics to help other athletes fulfill their dreams.

Ben Taylor

My name is Ben Taylor and I am a student of Gulf Shores High School. In my four years of attending Gulf Shores I have lettered for 3 years in varsity football as well as varsity soccer.  I have received 2 All-County awards for soccer and another for football. I am on the Leadership Team for the football team.   

While accomplishing these athletic goals I have also managed to maintain a 4.11 GPA, score a 29 on the ACT, and become a member of Gulf Shores' National Honor Society.   I am also a member of the Key Club.   

I am inspired by the people in my family, such as my father and grandfather, who became successful men in their lives through hard work and self determination.  They are valuable role models in my life and inspiring men to look up to.   

After I graduate from Gulf Shores, I plan on attending Auburn University to pursue a degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

Kelsey Paige Alexander

* Kelsey has a GPA of 4.3 and an ACT score of 27.
* She has been a member of the Dolphin Volleyball Team for 4 years and a member of the
   tennis team for 2 years.
* She was Vice President of her Sophomore Class, President of her Junior Class, and is 
   currently the President of the National Honor Society.
* She is a member of the LEO Club, Juniorettes, and is an Ambassador for the Student
   Government Association.
* She was the GSHS 2013 American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Delegate.
* She attends Christian Life Church, where she plays keyboards with the worship team.
* She serves as Student Coordinator of the Backpacks for Kids Program at Orange Beach
   Elementary School.
* As of this past Friday night, Kelsey is the 2013 Gulf Shores High School Homecoming 
   Queen.
* Kelsey has been accepted to and will enter the University of Alabama in the fall, where she
   will study management with plans to attend law school and pursue a career in enterainment
   law.

Other Information
I am inspired by my Granddaddy and his long and full life that he has lived and I plan to attend the University of Alabama like he did.
I will major in Biology then continue on to Veterinary School at the University of Florida to pursue a career in Marine Animal Medicine.

David Nelson

My Academic Accomplishments/Extra Curricular activities are:

I have a GPA of 3.5 and a 26 on my ACT I am on the Honors Diploma. I have received over 50,000$ in Academic Scholarships from the various colleges I have applied to. I was a member of Interact Club, The Premier Perdido Bay Soccer Club and Mobile Bay Soccer Club. 

My Volunteer Activities:

Over the past 4 years I have participated in Coastal Clean-up. I have been an Aid to a Special Needs Student at Holy Spirit Episcopal Day School. I am the Head Acolyte and Lead Crucifer at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. I have also been to Ecuador on a mission trip to help build a day care for under privileged children. Through Gulf Shores United Methodist Church.

In addition to these activities I have managed our family business, Snappys Sno Cones, for the past three summers and worked full time at Fishers restaurant in orange beach.

My Athletic Accomplishments are:

I have played Basketball,Football, and Soccer for GSHS.

I hold most of the Field Goal kicking records at Gulf Shores High School, I was also named Special Teams MVP in 2013 For Gulf Shores High School Football.

I was also ranked the Number 3 Place Kicker in the State of Alabama In 2013 and the All-County Football Award for the 2013 season

I received All County, All Region, and MVP Honors for Soccer in my Junior season and I have been a captain for the past 2 years for Gulf Shores High-School. I was also The Captain for 2 years of The Premier Perdido Bay Soccer Team.

My plans for life after high-school are:

I am joining the US Marine Corps Recon Division in the summer of 2014 and will attend South Alabama to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.

My Parents are the inspiration to my work ethic they push me to the best person I can be everyday.
